Cyn i Ymddiriedolaeth Shared Earth gael gafael arni ym 1987, bu Denmark Farm yn destun dwysáu graddol. Nod yr Ymddiriedolaeth oedd gweld a oedd modd gwrthdroi’r broses hon heb ymyriadau mawr na chostau cyfalaf, a monitro’r canlyniadau.

Defnyddiwyd sawl dull i helpu i ysgogi prosesau naturiol, sef adfer cynlluniau pori mwy traddodiadol, lladd gwair, gwrthdroi draeniad, rhoi’r gorau i ddefnyddio’r rhan fwyaf o wrtaith a chodi ffensys o gwmpas gwrychoedd, nentydd a ffosydd lle porwyd yn ormodol. Bu’r canlyniadau’n syfrdanol ac mae’n dangos ei bod yn bosibl gwrthdroi bioamrywiaeth sy’n dirywio ymhen cyfnod cymharol fyr.

Y peth mwyaf arwyddocaol i gyd yw bod hyn wedi’i gyflawni heb reoli cyfarwyddol sy’n ffafrio unrhyw rywogaeth benodol yn fwy na’r llall, gan alluogi pob cynefin i sefydlu ei ansoddion a’i gymhlethdod ei hun yn ei amser ei hun.

Mae Denmark Farm bellach yn rhan o Dir Gofal ac mae ei phorwr gwartheg wedi ehangu i gynnwys safleoedd cadwraeth natur eraill yng Ngheredigion. Bob blwyddyn, mae cannoedd o dirfeddianwyr ac ymgynghorwyr yn defnyddio cyrsiau hyfforddiant a chyhoeddiadau’r Ymddiriedolaeth, gan gynnwys erthyglau ar y we am Adfer Cynefinoedd.

Before its acquisition in 1987 by the Shared Earth Trust, Denmark Farm had been progressively intensified. The Trust's aim was to see whether this process could be reversed without major interventions or capital expense and to monitor the outcomes.

Reinstating more traditional grazing regimes, haymaking, reversing drainage, stopping most fertiliser inputs and fencing off overgrazed hedgerows, streams and ditches were all used to help 'kickstart' natural processes. The results have been astonishing and show that it can be possible to reverse declining biodiversity in a relatively short timescale.

The most significant thing of all is that this has been achieved without prescriptive management that favours any one species over another, allowing each habitat to establish its own constituents and complexity in its own timescale.

Denmark Farm is now in Tir Gofal and its cattle grazier has expanded to include other nature conservation sites in Ceredigion. Every year, hundreds of landowners and advisers acess the Trust’s training courses and publications, including web articles on Habitat Restoration.
